Types of fishing lines. Part one.

Good time. Hope you know, good fishing line is the base for successful and enjoyable fishing. I want talk to you about different types fishing lines: monofilament line, braided fishing line, fluorocarbon and colored lines.

At first lets see to Monofilament line. Monofilament means a single strand of line, but in sport fishing it has become know as nylon fishing line. Nylon Monofilament is a single-component item, which is formed through a compressing process in which fused plastic is formed into a strand through a die. Nylon Monofilament line is a co-product of crude oil conversion. Premium grade line receives more attention in quality-control, have a lot of additives what makes line stronger, and have more abrasion resistant than normal line. This is why the premium lines is more expensive.

Then lets take a look at Co-filament one, which adds more resistance to the line but keeps the line strength, sensitivity, and has great wear and tear resistance.

Okay, look like we’re done with filament. Next are Fused Lines. Fused line composed form dozens microfilaments of gel spun polyethylene fiber what fused together. This construction produces a single strand of mega thing and ultra strong line. This kind of lines also has very good abrasion resistance and sensitivity.

Time to overview Braided fishing line. Braided line consists of interlaced stands of nylon, what make a multifilament line named Dacron. Dacron was the best before the invention of nylon. It’s not used for lines now, but substantially it is used in fly fishing reels. Braided line is configured with extra strong and thin synthetic fibre what, just imagine, 10 times stronger than steel (this material is used in military purposes and in aerospace craft). Because of its thinness, durability, abrasion resistance, sensitiveness and other factors braided fishing line was acknowledged as the best line in most fishing situation. Pay attention when you tie a knot – using of incorrect knot for braided line will come the line untied. Uni and Palomar knots are most suitable for most brands of braided lines. Using the knot what manufacture recommends to use is good idea also J. Also it is acceptable to use super-glue to make sure you knot will stay tied. Okay let consider we are done with braided fishing line.

To be continued… You can read about fluorocarbon and colored lines in one of my next articles. Have a nice day!

Kinds of Fishing Reels. Part one.

Fishing reels are essential for practicing angling.

There are too many kinds of fishing reels on the market nowadays, so it could make you lost easy. Lets make things a little clear, so you can choose the right one reel for your fishing. Fishing reels are of different types, depending on the fishing practiced: bait reels, spinning reels, spin cast reel, under reel, direct-drive reel, fly reels, and anti reverse reel. I will talk about some (more interesting in my opinion) of them: Bait Casting Reels, Spinning Reels and Spin Cast Reels.
To choose a reel right for a job you need to know 3 important things: where you will fishing, fishing method you will use, and what type of fish will be your target. In this article will briefly overview most popular types of reels for saltwater fishing, such as off-shore, backcountry or reef fishing.
First one, I wish acquaint you with, is Bait Casting Reel, also known as Conventional Reel. On this reel the line is coiled on a revolving spool, which is fixed above the rod. Almost each of these reels equipped with a level wind mechanism, what guides the fishing line back evenly on to the spool while you rewind a line, and drag adjustments which help provide line control while you cast. To cast with Bait Casting Reel you have to move the rod backward first and then snap it forward. To stop cast you have to place your thumb over the line when it reached required distance.

The main problem many people experience with Bait Casting reels is the backlash. For those of you who don’t know what it is: this happens usually when the lure or bait hits the water and stops forward motion. But the reel, however, doesn’t stop, and the line spools off the reel so quick that it ends up in a tangled mass which can take forever to fix. Of course, as with any baitcaster, a novice fisherman is going to have a lot of problems with backlashing in the beginning . Nowadays, Bait Casting Reels are usually made from aluminum or stainless steel and unlike the spinning reels they have a mechanism that prevents the line from getting stuck or twisting under itself on the spool when retrieval is performed. When lures of different weight are attached the casting reels need to be readjusted. The Bait Casting Reel design will work well with a wide variety of fishing line but braided fishing line is the best choice for most situations.

Braided line overview.

Braided fishing line is very popular now. It is works impressive in most fishing situations and also braided fishing line is ultra strong.

Do you know what does braided line consist of? The braided line is made from weaved or braided man-made material named Micro-Dyneema or Spectral. What is why the line is EXTRA tough, strong and has great resistance against abrasion what is significant too. Since this line is extra strong it will not so easy to break the line if it get hung up :) but a fish have no any chances to break it. That’s good, isn’t it?

The bad thing, I guess, is braided fishing line is more visible it the water, than another, say, fluorocarbon one. Exactly because this reasons some fishermen do not like to use it, when fishing in clear water.

Some experienced fishermen talk the braided fishing line will cut into a rod guides on cheap guides – so if you are using cheap rod guide you need make sure your rod can hold it.

Braided lines are good for topwater baits, since they float. They have little stretch, making it possible to tease fish pulling lure away from it.

Oh, I nearly forget: you have to reserve a scissors, because some of braided lines can be TOO tough, so please don’t forget to take a scissors when you go for fishing :)

So I have to say it again: braided fishing line is good in many situations, so I think everyone must use it or have at inventory at least…
