Braided line and fly line are not rivals, but mates.

In spite of the fact that this blog describes braided fishing lines, lemme talk some about fly fishing line as well.

If you do want to buy fly fishing lines and receive a help in choosing a right line, learn how to choose right fly fishing lines and which one – just read through my page and you will able to pick the right fly line.

Here are most important things you have to know if you want to buy fly fishing line:

First what you need to know there are two main shapes (tapers) of fly fishing lines: a double taper and weight forward. The double taper line starts with one diameter, then it expansion diameter at the segment and then backs to the starting. The double taper line is finer than weight forward, so more easer to roll cast as result. Now about weight forward tapers. The name “weight forward” describes the line technology: this line has more weight at the leading end. This line is not so fine and “refined” as double taper and takes more efforts for roll cast. But here are pluses: weigh forward line is better when you cast at windy weather and also this line can carry more weight.

Okay, now you know the difference between Double Taper and Weight Forward lines. Now you have to decide if you want a sinking or floating line. Few words about each of them:

Floating – more universal, it is easy to cast this line because it stays on the surface, also allow you to use dry fly (bait or temptation for fly fishing, which stays on top, without submersion).

Sinking – not so universal as floating and hard to cast since the line is in the water. These lines are usually using for fishing in deep water. And the main bad feature what usually you have to retrieve the line in full before re-cast :( .

By the way, colored fishing lines are also very useful. Why? Look, it’s very easy: colored fishing lines are more visible for you, so you will able to follow the line after cast. The line’s construction contains camouflaged lead what connects line and fly, so there is no chance to scare a fish away with line color.

It is good idea to upgrade your reel with braided fishing line. This will allow a big fish (if any :) ) to run over fly line’s length. I recommend you to attach braided fishing line to each reel with fly fishing line. Also don’t forget to clean your line from dirt to make its life longer! You can use hand-made or more comfortable especial devices for line cleaning.

That’s all you need to know about fly fishing line. I hope this article was useful for you.

Types of fishing lines. Part two.

In part one we have done with monofilament, fused and braided fishing line.

Now let me talk some about Fluorocarbon fishing line. Fluorocarbon lines usually designed for freshwater spinning and baitcasting applications. Manufactured from polymer of fluorine bonded to carbon, this line has some preferences over the other lines. First is an invisibility what so required when you fishing in clear and transparent waters.Second is the line is not affected by sunrays (like, unfortunately, braided fishing line is) – so it will serve you longer than any other line thereby save your money J. Third is very low stretch. Fourth – fluorocarbon lines do not absorb a water, like monofilament for example, what makes the line stronger. And fifth is lines do not float at surface thus allow lures to fallow fast, quick and very deep :) .

And at the end some words about Colored lines. You can find what braided lines have different colors – so you need to know which one you need and in what situation. There are a few different colors what will useful in next situations. a) Moss Green – best suitable for heavy weeds water.b) Clear Blue Fluorescent – indispensable when the sun is already out and you need to see the line above the water. In spite of the line is good visible above surface – it’s almost invisible under water. c) Choose Brown line when you fish in troubled or dark waters. d) When you fishing in mega clear, transparent waters – then you should use a Low Visibility Clear line. e) High Visibility Gold – as you already got from the line name this color has increased visibility. This line is good to see so it is good to use these lines when you want to troll several lines at the same time.

Gosh, look like that is all! Be guided by this info when choosing or purchasing the line, think what line do you want and need. You may like fluorocarbon or monofilament or may be braided fishing line – what is useful for most situations. Think twice – and you will do appropriate for you choice and your fishing will doomed to success :) . I wish you REALLY big fish :) .

Kinds of Fishing Reels. Part Two.

Time to continue our story about fishing reels :) first article is here.

..Next is Spinning Reels. This reel has a fixed spool what allows the use of lures that have not enough weigh to for bait casting reels. Since this reels have fixed but not rotating spool – the backlash problem is finally solved J. That are good news. The bad new is spinning reels usually have some “irritating” problems with curling the line, which can be caused by the spinning of an pegged bait. braided fishing line spinning reelSpinning Reels separated to 3 main types, depends of its drag system: a) Front drag. This system has the drag adjustment at the reel’s front and allows for a smoother drag because the drag is located closer to the moving part of reel.. b) Back drag. c) Dual drag – it is when one in the front and one in the back. This universal system let the bait out w/o having to leave the bail open and also has better control when a fish strikes. To cast with Spinning Reel you have open the bail and hold the line with your finger, then move your rod back and cast forward at the same time releasing the line with your finger. To stop casting or wind the line you have to back the bail to original position. Most spinning reels operate best with fairly limp, flexible fishing lines.

And few words about Spin Cast Reels. The first Spin Cast Reels were introduced by the Johnson Reel Company and developed with attempt to the backlash issue, found in Bait Casting Reels designs. These reels have a fixed spool likewise Spinning Reels have. braided line cast reelThe line is thrown from a fixed spool and can therefore be used only with relatively light lures and baits. You can’t cast as far as you can cast with Spinning Reel, but these reels do not have problems with curling/twisting line. To cast with this reel, you need to push a button on the back of the reel, which releases the line pick-up, and then cast the rod. To stop casting you have to push the button again. When you reeling in the pick-up pin will reengage and the line will be re-spooled. Most Spin Cast Reels operate best with limp monofilament lines and braided fishing lines.

When you bought a good fishing reel, perfect match you, you will probably want to take care about your reel and learn some tips about maintenance. I just can suggest you clean you reel often, because cleaning from dirt and other extraneous stuff is the best method to make sure your reel will live longer :)
